About the Paint Shop Pro 8 Tools

Before we start...
Are you a beginner at Paint Shop Pro 8? Or have you wondered how to use a certain tool? This tutorial will show you each and every tool in PSP 8 and how to use them. Remember that other versions of PSP have some of the same tools so this will help as well if you use older or newer versions ;).

The tools *DUN DUN DUN*
Here are the tools. They are in the order that PSP shows them in ;).

Zoom Tool
Zoom Tool
^^ You can also type "z" to get to this tool ;). Click on where you want to zoom on your image with this tool to zoom in more. Also, if you have a mouse with a scroller, you can scroll up any time you want to zoom in as well.

Pan Tool
Pan Tool
^^ You can type "a" to get to this tool. Basically the pan tool is like a mouse, not much. It's a good default tool though :P.

Deform Tool
Deform Tool
^^ You can type "d" to get to this tool. The deform tool is extremely useful in graphics making. Choose the layer you want to resize and press the deform tool. You can then resize it in any way you want ;). Don't overuse this tool though- it can make images look too stretched/blurry.

Crop Tool
Crop Tool
^^ You can type "r" to get to this tool. Another useful tool ;). Select an image you want to crop and paste it into PSP8. Then select the Crop Tool, select which part you want to crop and click the checkmark on the top bar ;). You can also use this tool to find out the height and width of an image/part of an image. When you select a part of an image, on the top bar it will show you the height and width of it ;).

Move Tool
Move Tool
^^ You can type "m" to get to this tool. You should know what this tool does from the name of it ;). This tool moves individual layers. So remember if you want to move a certain part of an image, not the whole thing, you have to make a new layer :P. This tool is also handy if you want to select different layers.

Magic Wand Tool
Magic Wand Tool
^^ Unfortunately there is no letter shortcut to this tool XP. If it's not there, go to the fifth tool down and click the arrow, it should be there. This is a very helpful tool. What it does is when you click somewhere it will select that part. If it selects too much, higher the tolerance (top bar). If it selects too little, lower it. The magic wand can be used to get rid of the white space when you paste an image, it can be used to cutout parts of an image, make glitters, and much more ;).

Selection Tool
Selection Tool
^^ You can type "s" to get to this tool :P. This is similar to the Magic Wand. But when you use this tool you click and drag to select a part of an image which makes the selection a square. But it doesn't have to be a square. If you look up at the top bar, you can change the shape ;). If this tool is not showing on your sidebar go to the fifth tool down and click the arrow and it should be there ;).

Freehand Selection Tool
Freehand Selection Tool
^^ No letter shortcut for this one XD. Again, this is similar to the magic wand and the selection tool. If this tool is not showing on your sidebar go to the fifth tool down and click the arrow and it should be there ;). To use this tool, draw the part you want to select and it will be selected.

Dropper Tool
Dropper Tool
^^ You can type "e" to get to this tool. Use this tool to select colors that are already on the canvas ;). Very useful. If this tool is not showing on your sidebar go to the sixth tool down and click the arrow then it should be there ;).

Color replacer Tool
Color Replacer Tool
^^ No shortcuts to this tool :-(. Well it's not that helpful anyways XD. What this tool does is when you use this tool on white parts, it will replace that white with the color that's on your color palette.

Paint Brush Tool
Paint Brush Tool
^^ You can type "b" to get to this tool. Everyone should know what the paintbrush tool does. It's one of the most used tools eva XDD. You can use the brushes you downloaded here. But you should know what the hardness does (look on the top bar). The lower your hardness, the softer and more blurry-ish your stroke will be. If this tool is not showing on your sidebar go to the seventh tool down and click the arrow then it should be there ;).

Warp Tool
Warp Brush Tool
^^ No shortcuts here. If this tool is not showing on your sidebar go to the seventh tool down and click the arrow then it should be there ;). The warp tool mixes two or more colors together to get a cool effect. Try it out! You can change the properties of the Warp Brush on the top bar.

Clone Tool
Clone Tool
^^ You can type "c" to get to this tool. The Clone Tool is pretty cool but it's hard to figure out when you can actually use it XP. What it does is clone part of your image. To use it, click and run over the part you want to clone and it will come up right next to it.

Scratch Remover Tool
Scratch Remover Tool
^^ No shortcuts XDD. If this tool is not showing on your sidebar go to the eighth tool down and click the arrow then it should be there ;). This tool reminds me of a rake. Click and drag anywhere on your image and it will make those parts blurry XP.

Dodege, Burn, Smudge, Push, Soften, Sharpen, and Emboss Tool
Dodege, Burn, Smudge, Push, Soften, Sharpen, and Emboss Tool
^^ Pretty cool effect brushes here. Since it would take forever to explain each and every one of them, try them out yourself ;). If the tool you want to use is not showing on your sidebar go to the ninth tool down and click the arrow next to it and the tool you want should be there.

Light Up/Down, Saturation
Up/Down, Hue Up/Down, and Change to Target tool
Light Up/Down, Saturation Up/Down, Hue Up/Down, and Change to Target tool
^^ The only shortcut with these tools is you can type "l" to get to the Light Up/Down tool. Since these tools are pretty easy to explain, I will XD. For the Light Up/Down tool, left click to make your image lighter and right click to make your image darker. For the Saturation tool, left click to make your image "warmer" and right click to make your image black and white. For the Hue Up/Down tool, left click to make your image rainbow-ish. Right clicking does the same for this tool. If the tool you want to use is not showing on your sidebar go to the tenth tool down and click the arrow next to it and the tool you want should be there.

Eraser and Background eraser tool
Eraser and Backgroud Eraser Tool
Face it, you know what an eraser is XP. A very very useful tool, especially with blending ;). To get to the eraser tool, type "x". The background eraser is the same in some cases. Instead of erasing to the next layer like the normal eraser, the background eraser erases every layer down to the bottom which is transparent ;). If the tool you want to use is not showing on your sidebar go to the eleventh tool down and click the arrow next to it and the tool you want should be there.

Picture Tube tool
Picture Tube Tool
This is a pretty awesome tool =0. It takes a little while to load though. You can type "i" to get to this tool. To use the Picture Tube, on the top bar, choose a tube you want on your image. Then click where you want it to be and voila! If you want the tube to be smaller, on the top bar change the scale to a smaller number or if you want it to be bigger change the scale to a bigger number XP.

Fill Tool
Fill Tool
Lolz you should know what this tool does. You can type "f" to get to the fill tool. Like the mover tool, the fill tool fills things in by layers.

Text Tool
Text Tool
You should know what the Text Tool does too XP. You can type "t" to get to this tool. On the top bar, choose a font and size and get typing! Look at your color palette. The first color will be the outline of your text. The second color will be the inside color of your text.

Shape Tool
Shape Tool
Lol, we're getting to the point that I don't meed to explain tools to you anymore :P. You can type "p" to get to this tool. Choose a shape from the top bar and click and drag on your graphic to make a shape!

Pen Tool
Pen Tool
Finally! The last tool I'm gonna explain to you -sweatdrop-. My fingers are getting tired now :X. Anyways, you can type "v" to get to this tool (how many times have I said this). I don't use this tool very much. With this tool you can create 2 lines and it will color the part in between them. You can also pan around XP.

OMG! We're done!! Good luck with PSP8! Peace =).
