Program(s): Uhh...
Description: This tut will teach you about hosting

Every website has a host, or hosts itself. So what's a host? A host is someone who publishes your page on the web. There are many kinds of hosts. There are image hosts, web hosts, redirection hosts, php hosts, and much more! This tutorial will be more on image hosts, web hosts, and redirection hosts. How do you get a host? Easy question, all you have to do is find a host to your liking and sign up. After that, upload your files and your page/image is on the web! Congrats. The host will tell you your URL and you can visit your page (visit chapter I to find out what a URL is.) Let's start with Web hosting first.
Two web hosts I like are:
  • Freewebs
  • FreeHostia

They're both absolutely free :D. Freewebs is easy to use and has no adverts. But it doesn't support PHP. FreeHostia is a little bit more complicated so I suggest you stick with freewebs first and then go on to FreeHostia. It also doesn't have any adverts either. FreeHostia supports PHP which you'll need in order to get cutenews :D. When you're using freewebs and your in the middle of signing up it will ask you if you are a beginner or advanced or something like that. Choose advanced even if you really aren't advanced because when you choose beginner you'll get a layout made by them which isn't very good XD.

    Top-level Domain or Free?
A top-level domain is something that ends in something like .net or .org or .edu and costs money. A free domain is something that is like http://HOSTNAME/USERNAME or a subdomain which is http://SITENAME.HOSTNAME.com and is obviously free. FreeHostia has a subdomain URL and freewebs has the http://HOSTNAME/USERNAME one.

So I suggest if you are making a neo-site that you get a free domain first. Then when your site is really popular you can get a top-level domain.
A top-level domain hosting site I like is:
    1and1
1and1 has really low prices and has a lot of features at the same time :D. I used to use 1and1 for my old site, Phunkyneo.
If you find none of these hosts to your liking, you can always look up web hosting on google ;-).

    Image Hosting
Now that we're done talking about web hosting it's time to talk about... image hosting! An image hoster is very similar to a web host except that it hosts images. In fact, you can even use your web host as your image host. But it takes up space on your web host. So I recommend you get an image host for your images. Here are two image hosts I like:

  • Photobucket
  • ImageCave
They're both free. Photobucket can hold bigger images but ImageCave provides you with thumbnails (an image that's been resized to a smaller size and links to the whole image). It's your choice which one you choose. You can even choose both hosts if you want ;-).

To get your image to show up, look at Chapter I.

    Bandwidth
Every image host has a limited number of bandwidth. NO image hosts has unlimited bandwidth.

Bandwidth is measured in Bytes. So if your host says only up to 15 gigabytes per month and say you put 15.5 gigabytes in one month by accident, all your images will say "BANDWIDTH EXCEEDED" or the like. You'll have to wait until the next month for your images to turn up normal again.

    Redirection hosts
Ahh... a lot of people get confused on this one. So I'll make it as clear as I can. Basically, a redirection host is someone gives your site a shorter URL by redirecting from your web host. You still upload your pages on your web host! So... if I signed up for a co.nr redirection and had http://freewebs.com/wootwoot333 I could change it to wootwoot.co.nr and I'd still upload all of my pages on freewebs. You get it? Email me if you have any questions (kangaroo233@gmail.com). Here are two redirection hosts I like:

  • Ne1
  • Freedomain

Ne1 gives you a ne1.net, r8.org (the one that TBT uses) or 0vr.net domain and Freedomain gives you a co.nr. Oh yeah, and both of these hosts are FREE! Freedomain comes with no adverts while Ne1 comes with adverts but you can easily get rid of them (look on the site). So I recommend you get a redirection for your web host for your visitors to remember your URL.

So.. I guess that finishes my hosting tutorial. Feel free to email me your questions or post in comments.
